The Chief Executive is the Council’s Head of Paid Service and principal policy advisor, with responsibility for implementing the Council’s well-being objectives and improvement priorities. Key accountabilities include:

We are inviting applications from candidates with a track record of significant strategic vision, planning and delivery. You are likely to have extensive experience of Welsh local government, or must be able to demonstrate that you have a very clear understanding of its distinctive aspects.

As the Council’s most senior advisor, you must be able to make clear recommendations and advise Members confidently about the consequences of any course of action they decide. Members are an experienced and assured group, and they welcome challenge, ambition and innovation.

Our workforce is at the heart of everything we do, and a sophisticated understanding of public sector organisation management (including building effective relationships with trade unions) will be a distinct asset.

We want candidates with passion, drive, determination and an absolute focus on outcomes. But it will be important that – because fundamental system improvements don’t always appear immediately – you are able to engage sympathetically and positively with community concerns about how we work.
